Triathlon Pictures, Bike Ride, and German Fest

Here are pictures from the triathlon for me, Diana, and David.

This past weekend Diana and I went for a nice 30 mile bike ride north along Lake Michigan from downtown. We stopped halfway to get a picture on top of the bluff at one of the parks.

After the bike ride we went stayed downtown and went to German Fest. We haven't been before, but it was a fun experience. We filled up on German food and listened to some good oompa music. We were surprised by how many people dressed up in their full German gear for this event.

Door County Triathlon

We have been pretty busy, so here's the update for the end of July.

I spent the week after the last post up in Green Bay for work on the Fox River collecting sediment samples. At times there was some large boat traffic from the Great Lakes fleet. We have been in a brutal drought/heat wave as much of the midwest is and the days were hot on the water. We are still hoping for rain.

This past weekend Diana, David, and I went up north for the Door County half ironman in Sturgeon Bay, WI. We left Cassie at home for this trip and drove up early Saturday morning. We spent time with Diana's grandparents and had a great dinner at Cheri and Dan's house (Diana's Aunt and Uncle).

Sunday morning we were up early and made the short 8 mile drive to the start at Murphy Park. David and I were in the same starting heat and Diana started about 30 minutes later. The water was calm and pretty warm at 74 degrees. The heat built throughout the day and was in full force by the time we were on the run. We all finished 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run, and overall had a pretty good experience.

I was using the race as a practice for the upcoming Ironman in September and I think my pacing and nutrition worked out well. I just have to do double of everything... hopefully it's a little cooler in September. We have some long bike rides coming up in early August, which should help with the training.

Results are posted here, and race pictures should be posted in a few weeks. We had a lot of friends doing the race and had a nice BBQ at one of their lake houses afterwards. To top off the weekend, Diana and I both took off work on Monday to relax at home.

Beach Day

Summer is going by fast so today we took a short trip north of Milwaukee along Lake Michigan to Harrington Beach State Park. This park has a long section beach for pets so we brought Cassie to burn some energy. She was in the water right away and had a great time. This was her first time swimming in waves and she kept trying to run away from them. She quickly learned and was going out into the lake. We walked the beach and then relaxed and took a little nap. A lot more dogs showed up as the day went on and Cassie was able to play with some friends. Overall it was a good lake day. Coming up this week I am up in Green Bay for work and Diana and Cassie will be taking care of the house.

Diana way out in the lake. It was shallow for a few hundred feet.
