We have been pretty busy, so here's the update for the end of July.
I spent the week after the last post up in Green Bay for work on the Fox River collecting sediment samples. At times there was some large boat traffic from the Great Lakes fleet. We have been in a brutal drought/heat wave as much of the midwest is and the days were hot on the water. We are still hoping for rain.

Freighter heading out into Green Bay |
This past weekend Diana, David, and I went up north for the
Door County half ironman in Sturgeon Bay, WI. We left Cassie at home for this trip and drove up early Saturday morning. We spent time with Diana's grandparents and had a great dinner at Cheri and Dan's house (Diana's Aunt and Uncle).
Sunday morning we were up early and made the short 8 mile drive to the start at Murphy Park. David and I were in the same starting heat and Diana started about 30 minutes later. The water was calm and pretty warm at 74 degrees. The heat built throughout the day and was in full force by the time we were on the run. We all finished 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run, and overall had a pretty good experience.
I was using the race as a practice for the upcoming Ironman in September and I think my pacing and nutrition worked out well. I just have to do double of everything... hopefully it's a little cooler in September. We have some long bike rides coming up in early August, which should help with the training.
Results are posted
here, and race pictures should be posted in a few weeks. We had a lot of friends doing the race and had a nice BBQ at one of their lake houses afterwards. To top off the weekend, Diana and I both took off work on Monday to relax at home.
